How It Began
Alexandra’s love for antiques and all things ‘fine’ was encouraged by her mother and grandmother who were avid collectors of 18th century antiques. As a fun idea, Alexandra took part in an antiques fair arranged in their school hall with her mother and it took off from there, technically she buying and selling antiques by the age of 7.
Alexandra buys what she likes herself and what she feels would suit her house so most of the pieces offered for sale, the chances are, they’re from her house.
Where We Are Now
It was more recently that she took an interest in upholstery when in 2015 she inherited some armchairs and sought some quotes to get them re upholstered. ‘How much?!’ She thought…’No way. I can do them myself!’ So in 2019 she took the leap and left her full time office job in London and embarked on a series of courses including furniture repair, restoration and French polishing alongside a three year diploma for Upholstery. Studying under Bob of Barnett Upholstery in Battersea and Alex Law of School of Upholstery in Faversham she quickly realised it may have been a better to accept the initial quotes for her armchairs as she then realised quite how much time and effort goes into pieces of furniture. Anyway, having come out successfully the other side, she’s offering her services as an upholsterer.
